7th Grade Blue-March 26-27

This weekend we played up in the D-2 bracket, although we played well we finished with 3 tough losses. We played well in stretches including going into overtime with Davis and leading themby 10 points twice. However, the lessons we learned were invaluable as we shall soon reap the rewards of the hard work that we have put in. I fully expect us to be successful against both Davis and the E-time hoops squad that we lost too. We are capable of playing at this level we just have to improve our execution, basketball intelligence, and we need to press better. We have time to improve the things we need to improve as long as we put in the work

6th Grade White-March 26-27

Game #1We started out not having all of our players, but we competed the whole game. Logan really stepped up on offense. The boys played great on defense.

Game #2Again we played great offense. Brenden kept his head high and kept trying to score. Overall the boys played hard.

Best hustle and Defense go to Darnel
Best Offense goes to Brenden

5th Grade Blue-March 26-27

The 5th Grade YBA Xtreme blue team captured their fourth Championship in the last six weeks by defeating the Bruins in Rocklin High Schools big gym.  Without Jade Fodrill, or Arthur (birthday) the guys managed to step up with some huge rebounds from Jackson (Academic All-American) and Todd (voted best hair in America). New-comer Parker also stepped in to play the post position and showed some talented moves to the hoop.

With 3:30 left in the forth quarter and after three lackadaisical quarters, coach Garcia called a time out and enthusiastically reminded the guys that they had tiger's blood and were winners (sort of). Down by 8points with 1:30 left the guys press shut down the Bruins and after huge steels from Derek aka Steve Nash junior, and Jacob "hot sauce" Cruz, the guys got it within one point...with 20 seconds left the guys patiently used the clock to get the the best shot possible. After three missed attempts, RJ aka Big Shot RJ picked the ball up and hit what ended up being the game winning shot with 2.6 seconds left.

What a great victory and another championship in the book, great job guys!

5th Grade White-March 26-27

With two good practices this week, expectations were high and the team was raring to go against the Reno Ballers. The Reno Ballers jumped on us quickly and we struggled with their full court man press (21 turnovers). Nevertheless a tenacious defensive effort kept the game close Harmon Khela (7 steals), Conor keehley (4 steals), Zack Book (3 steals). Tied 36-36 with 26 seconds to play Harmon Khela grabbed his 8th offensive rebound and put it in for the game winner. Harmon Khela carried the team to victory on his back with 12 points, 18 rebounds, 7 steals, and 2 blocks.

With one win under our belt confidence was high as we squared off against CJBA. . Facing their first full court trapping press, the boys panicked and fell behind by 20 points in the first half. The boys learned valuable lessons about how bad a team will beat you if you don’t take care of the ball, help your teammates, and make good basketball decisions (CJBA 43 YBA 17). We look forward to gaining more experience and beating CJBA in our next meeting. The team was led by Harmon Khela’s 5 points and 7 rebounds.

In the final game of the weekend we faced the well-seasoned Irish. Once again the boys struggled early against a full court trapping defense and fell behind by 12 in the first half. However, the boys came together in the second half to beat the press. Our ferocious full court press defensive from Shamus Burmeister (5steals), Zack Book (5 steals), and Conor Keehley (4 steals) cut the lead to 4 with 30 seconds left. Unfortunately time ran out and we lost again 30-37. The team was led by another amazing effort from Captain Harmon Khela with 12 points and 19 rebounds

4th Grade-March 26-27

We started the weekend by taking care of business against an undermanned Reno team. We had a chance to get a lot of minutes for everybody and everybody did an awesome job!

In our second game we pulled out a win in a close game against Folsom Force. Folsom has really improved as a team and they do a great job game-planning for us and what we like to do. I thought the boys showed a lot of heart in refusing to be overtaken when our opponent made a couple of big runs! The boys showed a lot of composure and a lot of respect for the other team.
In the championship game against the Predatorswe played well against a good team and ended up loosing. This was a much better performance than our last meeting with the Predators. The game was much closer than the score would indicate.
I would like to thank Coach Bob Mack and all of the parents for giving me the chance to coach the team last week while Bob was unavailable. I hope it was as much fun for the players and parents as it was for me!

3rd Grade-March 26-27

YBA-X found themselves faced off against an opponent that is qquickly becoming a nemesis of theirs. Playing a very familiar FEBA team from Folsom, the game was sure to be a close one, as they have been in the past. The team passed the ball very well and had some great moments, but the Bulldogs were toomuch and in the end, the YBA-X team lost by six. Coaches were proud that the team hung in there and played hard throughout the game.

The second game was against a Predators 3rd grade team. Though the Predators were quick, the YBA-X used great teamwork and defense to easily defeat the Predators.

The last game saw the YBA-X team play the only 4th grade team in the division - the Davis Wildcats. Being 4th graders, they were bigger and more physical than us. Because of their size and length, the YBA-X team had a tough time breaking the press which caused many turnovers.  The team did not quit and kept fighting. Again, they passed the ball well and made some great baskets, but the turnovers were too much and
the YBA-X team dropped their last game of the day.

Overall, the coaches felt it was a successful tournament as success is not always determined by the win-loss record. We saw many great passes, and flashed of great teamwork which we can build upon in making this team a very good team.
