5th Grade White-March 26-27

With two good practices this week, expectations were high and the team was raring to go against the Reno Ballers. The Reno Ballers jumped on us quickly and we struggled with their full court man press (21 turnovers). Nevertheless a tenacious defensive effort kept the game close Harmon Khela (7 steals), Conor keehley (4 steals), Zack Book (3 steals). Tied 36-36 with 26 seconds to play Harmon Khela grabbed his 8th offensive rebound and put it in for the game winner. Harmon Khela carried the team to victory on his back with 12 points, 18 rebounds, 7 steals, and 2 blocks.

With one win under our belt confidence was high as we squared off against CJBA. . Facing their first full court trapping press, the boys panicked and fell behind by 20 points in the first half. The boys learned valuable lessons about how bad a team will beat you if you don’t take care of the ball, help your teammates, and make good basketball decisions (CJBA 43 YBA 17). We look forward to gaining more experience and beating CJBA in our next meeting. The team was led by Harmon Khela’s 5 points and 7 rebounds.

In the final game of the weekend we faced the well-seasoned Irish. Once again the boys struggled early against a full court trapping defense and fell behind by 12 in the first half. However, the boys came together in the second half to beat the press. Our ferocious full court press defensive from Shamus Burmeister (5steals), Zack Book (5 steals), and Conor Keehley (4 steals) cut the lead to 4 with 30 seconds left. Unfortunately time ran out and we lost again 30-37. The team was led by another amazing effort from Captain Harmon Khela with 12 points and 19 rebounds
