8th Grade White-January 29-30

YBA Xtreme White vs. Placerville Blazers
Saturday 1/29/11 at 9:00 a.m. YBA squared off against a solid Placerville Blazers team.  YBA missed several early transition basket chances and let the opponent gain confidence.  YBA settled for too many long range jump shots overall instead of attacking the basket and making the extra pass and playing as a team. For the first time pressing in a game YBA did ok but gave up too many transition baskets. Keys for improvement from this game: reduce turnovers, pass the ball more, and rebound the ball on the defensive end.
  • Defense player of the game:   Mathew Dzwilewski, Josh O’neal
  • Offense player of the game: none
  • Best Hustle: Sanam Bains
  • Best Attitude: Cody Abendschein

YBA Xtreme White vs. Cal Reign
Saturday 1/29/11 at 10:05 a.m. YBA squared off against the Cal Reign.  YBA had great energy. A big line-up proved to have some success with an aggressive 2/3 zone, creating easy transition baskets and allowing YBA to cut a sizable lead down to 8 at one point but going back to a steady diet of quick long range shots and not getting back on transition defense let this one get away from YBA.  Definitely our best game of the year now we need to build on this momentum. Keys for improvement from this game: up our intensity, rebound, rebound, rebound on the defensive end, take higher percentage shots on offense.
  • Defense player of the game:   Jermaine Washington
  • Offense player of the game: Tyrell Minor
  • Best Hustle: Josh O’neal , Sanam Bains

YBA Xtreme White vs. Rocktown Ballers
Sunday 1/30/11 at 2:25 p.m. YBA squared off against the Rocktown Ballers.  I am extremely proud of our effort and thought the kids really left it out on the floor in this one…all any coach can ask.  A definite horse race from the opening tip and a game that never left a single digit lead for either side, saw several lead changes and remained a 2 point game for the majority of the game.  If YBA can learn to finish in transition  i.e. attack the basket and score the ball on fast break lay ups we will be very competitive.  YBA’s man defense was outstanding.  Keys for improvement continue to reduce turnovers, get the ball middle against a press, continue to make the extra pass on offense, take high percentage shots, and finish in transition.
