Another weekend full of growth and experience! We started out the weekend against a very good FEBA 3rd grade team. We executed on offense and defense flawlessly. However, we shot about 5% from the field. No kidding! This might actually be a little kind. We missed a lot of open layups and tons of jump shots. I attribute a lot of this to rushing our shots and a lack of concentration. The boys were able to pull out a 2 point win thanks to late threes from Zeki and Spencer .
Our second game was against Carson Valley whom we easily beat in our first meeting. This game was a little different to start. They added a couple of bigs that helped change the dynamics of their team and we came out shooting poorly again. We had a discussion about setting your feet and concentrating on the shot. Do not rush the shot. We had a 10 point lead at the half and then we caught fire. Vince , Evan and Ben were dropping in jumpers from all over the place. We managed to pull away easily behind this great shooting.
Our arch rival was waiting for us in the championship game. We had split the last two championships. Our boys came out and played their hearts out. We executed on offense and defense. Matt was a BEAST on the boards and was able to convert many baskets off those rebounds. Great game Matt! We easily pulled away for another championship. Great game boys!
Our team is a very emotional team, which can be a double edged sword. This emotion helps us play with fire, but at times can take us in the wrong direction. We had a couple of brief instances of that this weekend, but the boys really pulled it together fast and learned a lot.
Thanks for the great weekend,
Coach Mack
