5th Grade Tournament Game
Wow! These kids are a joy to coach! 1st off the boys were not intimidated at all by the older kids. As the interim coach for Coach Tom he told me to focus on "Help Defense" This form of defense is what most high school coaches teach. In this defense each player guards his man and HELPS towards the ball. In particular Derek Galvan did an exceptional job with this concept.
The defense improved with each quarter of the game the players improved. It was a hard fought battle right to the last play. We called a time out and came up big in the end with a deep pass from Dawson Fugate to Ryan Haug to seal the deal for the victory for the 5th Grade tournament team.
5th Grade Competitive Game
The boys faced a experienced 4th Grade tournament team and played very competitively and handled adversity against a tough press. The boys had a 1st half rebound fest grabbing most rebounds for extra shot attempts. The boys saw a little full court press that the 4th grade team went on a 6-0 run. The boys gathered there composure and passed through the press and fought hard but lost a close game.
